Crispy Tastic Sushi Rice Bites

Ingredients

Yield: 10 - 12 bites depending on how big you decide to make them 

For the Rice Cakes:                 

450 g Tastic Rice of the world sushi rice, steamed               

30 g Golden Cloud flour                 

15 ml Vegetable oil                

5 g Chives, fresh, sliced optional garnish            

For the Dipping Sauce:                      

5 g  Sugar                      

15 ml Soy sauce

 

Topping ideas:

  • Thin sticks of Cucumber
  • Thinly sliced Avocado
  • Jalapeno or Serrano Pepper
  • Thinly sliced Radishes
  • Tobiko (Fish Roe)
  • Furikake
  • Sesame Seeds make for a great topping and additional flavour
  • Green Onions or Chives
  • Edamame (or Mashed Edamame) is perfect if you are crafting a vegetarian option
  • Pickled Red Onions   
  • Smoked Salmon 
  • Cream cheese 
  • Kew pie style mayo 
  • Nori sliced into thin stirps 
  • Crab sticks
  • Prawns               
Method
  1. Put cooked rice in a bowl, sprinkle flour over the rice, and knead rice with hands, mixing ingredients together.
  2.  Shape rice into small, round, flat pieces.
  3.  Heat vegetable oil in a skillet.
  4. Fry rice cakes over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Turn over cakes and fry for a couple more minutes, until cakes are warmed through.
  6. Turn up heat to medium and fry, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden on both sides.
  7. Meanwhile, make the dipping sauce by combining the sugar and soy sauce in a small bowl.
  8. Serve the rice cakes, garnished with chives (or your choice of toppings), alongside the dipping sauce and enjoy.
